John M. Brate Obituary

Voorheesville - On September 21, 2023, John Michael Brate passed away at the age of 67 after a long battle with COPD. He was born in Voorheesville and resided there all his life until entering Our Lady of Mercy Care nursing home two years ago.


John was the son of the late August and Mabel Brate. He is survived by his siblings Beverly Meacham, August Brate, Ronald (Kim) Brate, Thomas (Wendy) Brate, Ann (Donald) Dieckmann, Mary Rarick, Mabel (George) Porpeglia and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.


John worked most of his life for the Hudson River Construction Co. He loved to fish, hunt, shoot pool, and golf before his health became an issue. John’s second home was at the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club shooting trap, playing cards, or just having a few drinks with friends.


Calling hours will be Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville followed by a gathering at the Voorheesville Rod & Gun Club.
