Obituary of Matthew S. Ramsey
Please share a memory of Matthew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Voorheesville - Matthew Stuart Ramsey, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, left this existence on May 31, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in 1968 Matt lived in Voorheesville, New York for most of his life. He was the son of Dick and Judy Ramsey; brother to Jennifer and Roger Rennels and Kate Ramsey; and uncle to Martina and Dylan Rennels. Family was extremely important to Matt, and he fiercely loved his close and large extended family.
Matt loved animals, especially his pets, and was able to see many kinds of wildlife during a safari trip in Tanzania. Art was Matt’s passion starting from an early age and throughout his life. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design. His art ranged from drawings to sculpture to full room installations. Music was another passion. He was an avid music collector, and although punk rock was his main love, he listened to all kinds of music. He also played music throughout his life and taught himself to play the keyboard and the djembe in the last couple of years. Matt savored being in nature and taking in his surroundings on long walks. He cared about the local and broader community. He was an active member of the Upstate Artists Guild, joined the Albany drum circle, and was a member and president of the New Scotland Kiwanis. He was deeply concerned about the environment, children in need, racial injustice and humanitarian crises.
A gathering to celebrate Matt will be held on June 27th from 2-5 pm at Indian Ladder Farms in Altamont. If you would like to make a donation in Matt’s memory, he supported Black Lives Matter, the International Rescue Committee, and the World Wildlife Fund.
