Obituary of Virginia Patricia Shelly

 Virginia Patricia (Ginny) Shelly, of Farmington, CT passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the age of 90.  

Born in Albany, NY to John (Poppy) and Virginia (Ongie) McCormack, Virginia and her sister, Dianne were raised in the Roman Catholic faith and graduated from Our Lady of Angels. 

She married Thomas Edward Shelly and together they had three children: Mary Colleen, Timothy and Heather. Virginia's marriage to Thomas lasted until his passing in 1983. In the years that followed she chose to remain unwed, carrying forward the pleasant memories of their life together. 

Years later, due to her own health needs, Virginia moved to Farmington, CT to be closer to family, where she spent her final years. Virginia retired from the State of New York Office of Children and Family Services as a secretary at the age of 55. She cherished the time spent caring for her family and grandchildren and enjoyed the company of her close friend Barbara Stamas. Her retirement was also richly filled with summers at her beloved camp by Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. 

Virginia is survived by her younger sister, Dianne McCormack; her children, Mary Colleen Woerner, Timothy Shelly and wife Pamela, Heather Chatterjee and husband Digaunto; her grandchildren, Tracy, Devin, Supriya, Nora and Brian; and her great-grandchildren, Emileigh, Tatum, Brian, Timothy, Sarah, Anthony and Michael.  She was also predeceased by her grandson, Timothy Shelly Jr. 

A service will be held to honor Virginia. Immediate family is welcome at noon, and all remaining family and friends are invited for a short service conducted by a Deacon at 1 pm on January 5th at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave.,  Colonie, NY 12205, followed by interment at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, with a celebration of life around 2 pm at Mr. D's Restaurant & Lounge in the Desmond Hotel, 660 Albany Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12211.
