Gilbert M. Faustel Obituary

Albany – Gilbert M. Faustel, 88, of Albany, entered into eternal life on October 27, 2023 at the St. Peter’s Hospital Hospice Inn.


Born in Passaic, NJ on August 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Martin and Lucy (Pomper) Faustel. Raised in Clifton, NJ; trained as a civil engineer at Newark College of Engineering; commissioned as an officer in the US Public Health Service from 1957-1959; MS in Management from RPI; Sanitary Engineer for NYS Dept. of Health 30+ years. He was married 59 years to the late Elsie May (Gamblin) Faustel. An avid model railroad hobbyist, a prolific gardener, and a talented piano and violin player who was part of the NJ All-State High School Orchestra in 1953. He enjoyed spending time and playing games with his family. A man of strong Chistian faith, he regularly led Bible studies and delivered sermons at Bethany Reformed Church.


Survivors include his loving children, Keith (Jill) Faustel of Hagaman, Katherine (Drew) Cathell of Huntly, VA, Karen Tedesco of Albany, and Amy Faustel (Sheila Ambrose) of Clarksville; his cherished grandchildren – Bryn, Jesse, Jessica, Melissa, Dane, Heather, Casey and Lena; and his great-grandchildren – Alyssa, Finn, Zoey, David, Emma, Carter, Charlotte, Jack and Isaac.


A Celebration of Life service will be held at Bethany Reformed Church, 760 New Scotland Ave., Albany 12208 on Saturday Nov. 25 at 11 am, followed by a lunch reception in Fellowship Hall. Relatives and friends may visit with the family starting at 10:15 am at the church.


The family would like to thank all who prayed for Gil and for the caring staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.
