When Uncle Reinie was drafted for the Vietnam war, I was about 10 years old. He had lived with us while going to college so he was in my life for a long time. I wrote to him every week and he wrote me. That was back in day when air mail was the way to post internationally and I saved every letter. I’m not the best at keeping in touch with loved ones so we didn’t see each other much after that so I am so happy that I got to spend some time with him last January. His illness was starting to take hold but we saw glimpses of the real Uncle Reinie. The trauma in his life surely took a toll and you have to wonder why a good man would have been subjected to such horror in a life time. He was so lucky to have a strong, caring wife and a daughter who loved him so much. They will go on, with his memories and his grandchildren and make a new life.

Ron was a neighbor, father figure and friend. The Welkers moved "next door" and our families have been connected ever since. - back yard barbeques and fourth of July parties, serving and celebrating our community with the VVFD, and so much more. Even after we moved away from Voorheesville, Ron and Donna have always been like family <3 Ron we miss you and please give Mike a hug from us
