Mary G. LaBarre Obituary

Mary G. LaBarre (11/1/1918 – 6/26/2022)

Mary was born in Albany, NY to Angelo and Josephine George on 11/1/1918, as the Fall spike in the Spanish Flu pandemic struck. She passed during a second pandemic, Covid-19. What a way to come and go!

As a young girl, Mary worked on the family farm. After high school she took a job as an elevator operator at the Hotel Wellington in Albany, eventually moving up to desk clerk. She married Robert M. LaBarre (deceased) in 1947. Soon after they moved to Hammond, Indiana, where her first two children, daughter Marilouise (husband Dennis) was born in 1948, and son Larry (wife Vicki) in 1949. After a job transfer the family moved to Long Island, NY where her son Bob (wife Mary) was born in Brooklyn in 1954. In 1960 the family moved to East Granby, CT. With all children off to school Mary took a position as a pension analyst at Connecticut General Insurance Company, now call CIGNA, where she worked until she retired on October 31, 1983. In the summer of 1984, Mary had a house built and moved to Sarasota, FL where she lived out the remainder of her life.
Mary was a very religious person, driving to church each Sunday until she couldn’t drive anymore, and then getting a ride from a parishioner for a few more years before settling on watching mass on television for the last few years of her life. Consequently, in lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in her name to her church:

Church of St. Patrick - Catholic Church
