Obituary of Libby E. Kesner

Voorheesville - Libby E. Kesner, 70 years old, died June 8, 2022 at The Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, NY where she was employed for over 30 years, as an Occupational Therapist and later a Staff Educator.

Libby was loved and respected by all at the facility who knew her for her generosity, compassion and dedication to the philosophy of the green house environment for Long Term Care.

Libby is predeceased by her parents, Bernard J. Kesner and Elaine Strongman Kesner. She is survived by sisters, Dianne Baldwin of Schenectady, NY and Deborah  Kesner of Spokane, Washington; by nephew, Aaron M. Baldwin (Christina) of Ft McCoy, WI; niece, Abigail Baldwin-Medsker (Eric) of Connecticut and NYC; great nephews, Tyler and Joshua Baldwin; great aunt, Augusta Alba (Aunt Gussie) and numerous cousins across the United States.

Libby was born and raised on Staten Island NY and is a 1969 graduate of Staten Island Academy. She continued her education at Colby College, Waterville Maine graduating in 1973. While at Colby she traveled to China on the number two tourist visa ever issued. She is also a graduate of Utica College, Syracuse University with a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Libby remained in Maine after college graduation and worked as a cook and later a Watch Officer  on the pulling boats for Outward Bound, Hurricane Island, Rockland Maine. She was also part owner of the Night Kitchen Bakery also in Rockland Maine. She was employed at the Eddy Village Green until her retirement.

Libby was an active member of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Nashoba Valley, Mass. She was a breeder of Bernese Mountain Dogs having had 69 liters, the most recent 6 puppies just being placed in their forever homes. Her dogs are owned and loved by  many “Berner” people across the country. Her Kennel name is Maine’s. She became an AKC Breed Judge of Bernese Mountain Dogs in 2009 and judged at AKC sanctioned shows. Libby is survived by her beloved Berners; Zoey, Hugs, Nina, Poppy, and Nutmeg.

Libby loved her dogs, cider donuts, reading and cooking. She could “talk” dogs all day.

The family thanks: Ann and Melissa for always being there; Martha, Kate, Heidi and the “Berner Tribe” for their support; Sue for maintaining her beautiful gardens, and The Community Hospice for their support. A special thank you to the staff of The Eddy Village Green who welcomed her with open arms and allowed her to die with dignity and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall for family and friends. Date to be announced.  Donations may be made in her honor to an organization of ones choosing, The  Community Hospice or an organization that supports the welfare and rescue of dogs.
