Laurence R. Turino Obituary

Schenectady – Laurence Richard Turino passed away on April 4, 2022 after a short illness. Born January 18, 1937 in Troy, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Carmen (nee Zirpolo) Turino. He was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters, Pasquale, Mary, Carl, Rose, Anna, Lucille, Florence, Marie “Della”, John, Joseph, Christina, Blaise and Stephen. He is survived by one sister, Theresa Turino Spencer of Wilmington, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his wife of 61 years, Regina T. Turino (nee Downes); his son, Michael Turino (Arlene); daughter, Erin McEvoy (Patrick) and their children, Kiera, Brendan and Finn; daughter, Mary Ann Geiss (William) and their children, Peter and Katherine (Kyle Gorman); and son, James Turino (April).

Laurence was a 1954 graduate of Troy High School where he was inducted into the High School Football Hall of Fame. He worked for the United States Army at the Watervliet Arsenal for 30 years as a Machinist and Quality Assurance Specialist, receiving numerous awards for his performance. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army National Guard where he served for six years. He was a longtime resident of Schenectady. Laurence was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved the NY Yankees and enjoyed summer trips to Lake George and Saratoga.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2022 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady with interment following in the Greenbush Cemetery in Rensselaer. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie. For those who wish, memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
