I knew Patsy, and Dick, through our membership with the Unitarian church. Patsy was a quiet and charming presence and I always enjoyed our conversations. Happily, I was able to obtain one of her paintings at a church charity event, it hangs on the wall in my home office. The subject is a portion of Puget Sound, with the outline of the city and a hint of the mountains in the background. The painting is long and narrow, the tones are mostly black, with subtle blues. My mother lived in Seattle for a time when she was young, this watercolor from about 1995 reminds me of her, and of Patsy and her warmth. I'm happy to have known her. David Stone, Albany

Jan and Roger, I was quite surprised and sorry to read your mother’s obituary. Many years ago I spent time with your parents, hiking around Lake Placid and more recently exploring in the Mohawk Valley. When I lived in Ithaca they came out to see the Lab of ornithology and I got to visit with them as well. Both of your parents had a true zest for life. They had many interests and the world around them fascinated them. Losing a mother is very difficult. I hope the many fond memories you have of time spent with your mother will bring some ease to your sadness. May her memory be a blessing.
