I would have wanted to know about and visit Bruce before this happened, but with the virus, I would have called him. Very sorry to hear.
Bruce and I worked in the Materials Bureau at NYSDoT for decades, where we talked a lot and I occasionally had to take him on a field trip to inspect a product he was in charge of. I found out that Bruce was hesitant about these trips, as I had a reputation of going to places that others feared to tread, such as the top of dams, underside of bridges, in tunnels, and culverts. He would always question me.
I soon learned to leave out, or fudge a few details, such as how high up, or low down he would have to go to inspect the item, or he would not go. During our inspection adventure, and afterwards, Bruce would give me a hard time. Then when we got back to the office, he would overly exaggerate his adventure to everyone who would listen, and make us all laugh. We had fond memories of those trips.
