Obituary of James A. Kiegle
Niskayuna - James A. Kiegle, 81, passed away at home on July 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Albany, James was the son of the late Jacob Kiegle and Betty (Veith) Kiegle. He attended Vincentian Institute and after graduation worked as a baker at the Clinton Bakery, owned by his parents, until it closed in the early 1960s. At the same time, Jim served in the Naval Reserves.
Jim joined the Carpenters and Joiners and worked about twenty years as a carpenter. For 15 years, he worked for St. Peter’s Hospital as Manager of Facilities Maintenance, then for the Albany Airport Authority as a field engineer until his retirement in 2006.
He was a devoted Catholic and loved fishing, carpentry, baking and spending time with his family.
Jim was predeceased by his son Thomas Jacob Kiegle. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claire (Wise) Kiegle and brother Jacob Kiegle (Gail) of Woodstock, NY. He is also survived by his children Colleen Geller (Michael), James R. Kiegle (Rebecca), Edward Kiegle (Victoria), Jeanette Defazzio (Justin) and grandchildren Heather Flynn (Cody), Samantha Brino (Dylan), Lindsay Geller, Courtney Geller, Benjamin Geller, Emily Geller, Rachel Geller, Julia Xiao Lu Winokur-Kiegle, Olivia Defazzio and Nico Defazzio.
Funeral 8:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 from the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie and 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, 1803 Union St., Schenectady. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the funeral home. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Community Hospice, 310 So.
