Obituary of Joan D. Allard
Colonie - Joan DeMarco Allard, age 74, died unexpectedly Sunday March 18, 2018. She was born in Albany, NY as the younger daughter of Steve and Emma (Becker) DeMarco. She graduated from Colonie High School in 1961 and went to work for New York State, where she met William Allard whom she married April 23, 1963. She took time away from work to be a stay at home mom, enjoying summers on Lake Champlain. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. She returned to college when her children were young teenagers, earning an Associates Degree in Accounting from Adirondack Community College and returning to work for New York State in the Tax Department. She retired from there, having made several special friendships that she kept up into her retirement.
In retirement, she enjoyed cooking shows, annual Easter pie baking, socializing with her cousins and friends, and spending time at the lake. She became a grandmother in July 2017, and was proud of the time she was able to spend with her grandson.
Survivors include her husband Bill and their two children, Jennifer Allard, and Scott Allard, his wife Lisa and their son William; her nephew Steve and his wife Nicole Shryock and their sons; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephew and several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Ralph Shryock.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday March 24 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie . Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 -12, prior to the service. A memorial mass and burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
