Obituary of Viola DeMarco
Delmar - Viola DeMarco, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar. Born the youngest of seven children in her much-loved Pine Bush on April 14, 1924, she lived in many places in Albany or Menands for most of her life.
Known to so many people as “Aunt Vi”, she loved caring for babies and children and worked as a babysitter for years in the Whitehall Rd area of Albany, and in later years at Hackett Middle School cafeteria where she enjoyed interacting with the students and faculty.
Viola was predeceased by her husband of 41 years Anthony J. DeMarco, her brothers Tony, Joe, Luigi and Sal DeFilipo and sisters Louise Criscone and Betty Vet, her son-in-law Tony J. Mancuso, and her beloved grandson Yusef Westerman who was there to embrace her on Sunday afternoon with the wonderful hugs she so missed and for which he will always be remembered.
She is survived by her children, Mary G. Mancuso of Colonie, Annette DeMarco of Menands, Anthony DeMarco and his wife Robin of Colonie, as well as her granddaughters Gina Ree Mancuso of Austin, TX, Simone Westerman of Menands and Eva Kocsis of Colonie. Also by multiple generations of nieces and nephews too numerous to be named individually here but much loved by Aunt Vi and with special love and gratitude to her closest nieces, Diane LaRose and Marian Chrysogelos who gave her so much care and attention in these last months when she needed it most.
Her family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Good Samaritan that truly cared for her in the last three years.
Aunt Vi will always be remembered for the many ways she could make people laugh and family and friends are invited to share a funny story about her that she would enjoy at a remembrance gathering at Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie on Thursday from 4-7p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name would be much appreciated by her and her family to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
