Obituary of Robert Percy Broom

Virginia Beach, VA - Robert Percy Broom, 95, passed away Thursday, May 4 at The Waterford at Virginia Beach surrounded by family. Robert was a native of Albany, NY, a son of the late Ernestine Schultz and Percy Broom. Robert was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Hackel Broom, his sister Ernesta, and his brother Raymond. He was a Freemason, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He loved to golf and dance with the love of his life Gloria. 

Robert spent his early adult life in the United States Coast Guard before continuing his work on the railroad for the rest of his career. 

He is survived by two sons, Richard Broom of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Geoffrey Broom of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Geri Geiger (Ross) of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada and Robin Butler (John) of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be held at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 15, 2017.  A visiting hour will precede the service at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m until 12:00 . Burial will be in Memory’s Garden Cemetery.
