Obituary of Joan A. Blaauboer

Bethlehem - Joan A. Blaauboer of Slingerlands, formerly of Colonie, passed away on December 18, 2015 at the age of 81. Joan was the daughter of the late Ida and Harry Blaauboer; sister of Henry Blaauboer and the late James and Edward Blaauboer; sister-in-law of Vinci and Nancy Blaauboer. Other survivors include several neces and nephews as well as a host of friends. Miss Blaauboer was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and attended Mildred Elley Business School. She had a long career with Travelers Insurance prior to her retirement. Joan was deeply devoted to her faith and served the parish community of Our Lady of Mercy as a Lector. She was a member of the Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of Americas and was a Mercy Associate with the Sisters of Mercy. Joan’s faith, family and friends were the foundations of her life and they sustained her through many trials and illnesses. She enjoyed traveling and participating in family gatherings. She was a loyal friend and confidante who was always ready to share a story. Joan’s funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, NY 12211. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. A visiting hour will precede the mass on Wednesday from 9 - 10 o’clock at the church. Joan’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses of the CCU section at Albany Memorial Hospital for the care they provided to her.
