Obituary of Marilyn S. Brown
Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Slingerlands - Our beloved mother, Marilyn Ann Stratton Brown, 91, died November 12, 2015. She was born and lived in the Syracuse area most of her life until moving to Beverwyck in Slingerlands in 2011 to be closer to family. She was the daughter of A. Clifford Stratton and Hazel Brown Stratton.
Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Richard Brown, in 1945 when he returned after serving as a pilot with the US Army Air Corps during WWII. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage, raising their two children. She was a medical secretary for several practices in Syracuse and was an avid golfer, bowler and bridge player. After retiring, she did volunteer work at Community General Hospital and Baldwinsville Public Library. She knitted beautiful sweaters, afghans and other creations. She was proud to be known as “The Sweater Lady” at Beverwyck.
Marilyn is survived by her son Richard (Lois) Brown of Burdett and her daughter Susan (David) Kling of Slingerlands; grandchildren David Kling, Kristen (Jon) Blanchard, Stacey (Zach) Henderson and Richard (Tammy) Brown; and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 2000, and her sister Jean Stanton.
We would like to thank the staff of Beverwyck for all the help and support they gave her during the time she lived there. We also thank the staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for the extraordinary care and compassion they gave Marilyn and us while she was there.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
