Donald Carhart Obituary
New Scotland - Donald J. Carhart passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2013 with his beloved wife of 61 years Anna by his side. He was born in Syracuse, New York on February 17, 1929, the son of Ernest J. and Margaret M. Carhart and graduated from Minoa High School. Donald served in the United States Army from September 1946 through January 1948, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He had a successful career for over 40 years with the New York Central Railroad, later Conrail, retiring in 1990. He remained a lifelong railroad buff, and was a member of the National Railway Historical Association Mohawk Valley Chapter. He loved his family, fishing, canoeing and hunting, and the peace of the Adirondack Mountains. Donald is survived by his wife, Anna Porter, who he married in 1951, and their five children and spouses, Deborah (Ross Devendorf), James (Mary), Mary Savaria (Art), Ann Sutton (Richard) and Susan; their grandchildren, Patrick Ryan (Erin), Kelly Ryan (Wayne), Stephanie Sutton, Matthew Carhart, Sara Carhart, Heather Savaria, Chris Sutton (Kayla), Andrew Carhart and Chelsea Sutton; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ashlynn, Colin, Lucy, Charlie and Keegan; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Kippley and Madelyn Lorraine. He was predeceased by his grandson, Ryan Savaria; and two brothers, Ernest and Eugene. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 3 - 6 p.m. at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville. A prayer service will conclude the evening at 6:00 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 would be appreciated.
