Obituary of Gerald J. Borg

Delmar - Gerald J. Borg, 84, born Jean Gerard Louis Fuhrmann on December 25, 1930 in Alsace Lorraine, France died on the morning of May 1, 2015 at Good Samaritan Lutheran Nursing Home where he was a resident. Gerald came to the United States at the age of 3 with his mother Hildegarde Fuhrmann. Gerald was raised by Hildegarde and Arne Borg in New York. He met his future wife, Evelyn Louise May, in May 1951 and married on November 4, 1951. Right after marrying Evelyn, Gerald left for the Korean War as a U.S. Marine. After the war he returned home and started working. Gerald worked as a NYS employee for 33 years for both DMV and Department of Taxation and Finance. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. Gerald was a past Post Commander of the Ridgewood Queens VFW Post 123 . Gerald was predeceased by his mother Hildegarde and by Arne Borg. He is survived by his wife, of over 63 years, Evelyn and his four children: Valerie (Roger) DiBona of Slingerlands, NY, Anneliese (Tim) Wren of Downsville, NY, Gerald A Borg of Elizabeth City, NC, and Michelle (Ryan) McConky of Delmar, NY. Gerald is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private at the request of the family with interment at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205 for local research. Gerald’s family would like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Nursing Home for the care provided to him during his time there.
