Obituary of Eunice C. Gies

Eunice C. Gies (Williamson), 87, died suddenly on March 9, 2012, at Riviera Palms in Palmetto, FL. Formerly of Delmar, she and her late husband, Milton A. Gies, were longtime members of the Normanside Country Club. Eunice and Milt raised championship Clumber Spaniels and Eunice was the first president of the Clumber Spaniel Association of America. She graduated cum laude from the New York State Teacher's College in Albany and taught English for many years at the Adult Learning Center. More recently, she taught life skills at the Albany County jail. Upon her retirement, Milt and Eunice bought a home in Ellenton, FL, where Eunice made many dear friends and spent many happy hours on the golf course. She is survived by her sons, Michael A. and Milton (Tony) Gies, both of Voorheesville, and granddaughter, Gretchen Gies Soule (Kevin) and great-grandson Logan of Rochester. Born in Buffalo, New York, one of eight children, she is also survived by two brothers, Andrew (Peg) and John, sister Barbara Von Zastrow (Eddo), and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Reilly and Son in Voorheesville, followed by a graveside service at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
