COLONIE - Bert A. Stieler, 91, of Ahl Ave. died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Bert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 91st Bomb Group, 8th Air Force and was a POW in Stalag 17B. He was a proud member of the the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Prior to entering the service, Bert started working for the Lewis Equipment Company in Albany. He returned to work for them and retired in 1980 after nearly 40 years of employment. Bert was the husband of the late Gertrude Bedard Stieler; father of Paul Stieler of Hartland, VT and the late Laura Susan Briere; grandfather of Naomi Stieler, Jennifer Stieler, Joshua Stieler and Laura Ruth Briere; great-grandfather of Destin Hildebrand. Funeral 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie and at 10:00 o'clock at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the funeral home. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans William J. Lasch Chapter No. 10, VFW Post 8444 , 370 Central Avenue , Albany, New York 12206 or their local D.A.V. would be appreciated.
