Obituary of Richard M. Byrnes

Guilderland - Richard (Dick) M. Byrnes, 78, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born in Herkimer, NY, the son of the late Henry and Julia (Murphy) Byrnes. He was a resident of the capital district for the last 55 years. Dick graduated from Herkimer High School and earned his BA and MA from The University at Albany. He taught Mathematics in the Guilderland Central School District for 30 years, retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Murray) Byrnes, whom he married in 1957 in Saranac Lake, NY. He is also survived by his children, Kathleen (Alan) Fiero of Voorheesville, NY, Lynda (James) Pelichowski of Fort Collins, CO and Daniel (Jennifer) Byrnes of Glenmont, NY; and one sister, Marion Bates of Lakeland, FL. He was the proud grandfather of Sarina, Caitriona and Alana Fiero, Austin and Shannon Pelichowski and Molly, Liam, Maggie and Maeve Byrnes. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Margaret Greenier of Saranac Lake, NY and Linda (Alan) Wagner of Voorheesville, NY and their families as well as his brother-in-law, Raymond Baldwin of Mohawk, NY, Mary Murray of Saranac Lake, NY and serveral nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Baldwin.
Services will be private. Dick's family would like to thank Dr. Mark Fruiterman and Dr. Robert Kelleher and their staffs for their exceptional care and compassion throughout the years, the Emergency Room and 4th Floor Pavilion staff of St. Peter's Hospital and "The Friday Morning Breakfast Club" at Mike's Diner for their unwavering friendship and support.
