VOORHEESVILLE - Margaret Mary Barrowman passed away on June 29, 2011 after a long illness with family by her side. Margaret was born November 22, 1925 in Albany. She was the daughter of the late Jane Sinon Fryer and Stanley Fryer. She was raised in Voorheesville until age 12. She graduated from Albany High School, class of 1942. She married Clarence Ray Barrowman on April 2, 1943, recently celebrating their sixty-eighth anniversary. After WWII, they settled in Voorheesville and raised their four children. Margaret worked for the Voorheesville Central School District as secretary to both the principal and then the superintendent from 1961 to 1984. Margaret was the sister of the late Jean (Fryer) Russ and the late Elizabeth (Fryer) Kennah. She was the mother of Raymond Barrowman of Guilderland, Paul (Sheryl Meeker) Barrowman of Voorheesville, Nancy Barrowman of Ravena, and Roger (Theresa) Barrowman, M.D. of Glenmont. She was the grandmother of Benjamin (Lauren) Barrowman of Voorheesville, Robert Barrowman of Utica, Bethany Barrowman of Glenmont and William Barrowman of Glenmont. She was the aunt of Donna Lee (James) Quinn, Susan (Art) Draeger, and David Russ. She was the great-aunt of Tara Sparks, Sean Quinn, Jeffery and Daniel White, and Beth Skoldberg. Margaret enjoyed spending countless hours involved in assorted activities with her grandchildren. She was most content at family gatherings and loved to indulge all with her wonderful cooking. She was a talented seamstress, quilter and knitter. She enjoyed reading, tennis, and skiing. Summer family vacations in Cape Cod and winters in Florida with her husband were cherished times. Margaret visited several European destinations and enjoyed learning about different cultures. She will be most remembered as a caring, loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, and friend and as an adored grandma. She will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Church in Voorheesville, NY on Saturday July 9, 2011 at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Community Hospice and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
