Obituary of Daniel A. O'Brien

Colonie - Daniel A. O'Brien, 95, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his residence. Born and raised in Albany, Dan had lived in Colonie for the past 58 years. He was employed for 40 years as an Office Manager at Union Carbide in Colonie, retiring in 1982. For a combined 29 years he served on the Town of Colonie Zoning Board and Planning Board. He was an active member of the former Albany-Colonie Kiwanis Club where he was a past President and Program Director for many years. Dan was also a parishioner of the former Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Colonie. He had served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and he and his late wife, Marie were members of the morning mass group. Daniel was the husband of the late Marie Herbinger O'Brien; father of Mary Ellen O'Brien of Colonie; loving companion of his schnauzer, Lexi; and brother of the late James, Edward, John and Elizabeth O'Brien. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, NY 12211. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Christ Our Light Food Pantry would be appreciated.
