Colonie - John A. Wyszomirski, age 78, entered eternal rest on October 23, 2014, at St. Peter's Hospital with his loved ones nearby. He was a 53 year resident of Colonie. Born in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Martin and Josephine (Alkonis) Wyszomirski. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lorraine J. (Cole) Wyszomirski and devoted father of Laurie (Henry) Bailey, Theresa (David) Johns, Mark (Catherine) Wyszomirski and Ann (David) Roe. Grampy will be greatly missed by Keenan, Kevin, Eric, Alexa, Alanna, Julia and Benjamin. Also survived by his sister Sylvia (Joseph) Slezak and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Loretta Wyszomirski. Upon graduating Wilbur H. Lynch HS in Amsterdam, NY in 1954, he served 4 years as a corpsman in the US Navy and Marine Corps. After his military service he graduated from the Albany Medical Center School of Radiography. In 1960 he started his career with Dr. James Dougherty and went on to become the first Physician's Assistant in New York State specializing in Orthopedics. John was a member of the Governor's Advisory Council that developed the curriculum for the Physician Assistant education program in NYS and was active in mentoring and training the students in the program. After 36 years he retired from Capital Region Orthopedics. Whizz was an avid outdoorsman, gardener, home handyman and a devoted NY Giants fan. A Memorial Service will held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October, 26, 2014 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie. Friends are invited and may also visit with John's family prior to the service, from 1 - 4 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Stride Adaptive Sports, 476 North Greenbush Road, Suite 9, Rensselaer, NY 12144.
