Voorheesville - Doris M. Relyea was called home September 22, 2014 at the age of 99. Heaven has another angel. Doris was born October 6, 1914, moved to Voorheesville when she was a very small girl when her father took the job as telegrapher in the old railroad station. Doris graduated from Voorheesville School, 8th grade - the highest they had at the time then went to Bethlehem High School graduating 1933, then graduated from Mildred Elley Business School. Doris was a Stenographer for several years then went to work in the Voorheesville School Cafeteria in the eary 50's and worked in both elementary and high school through the early 70's. Doris was active in the old Presbyterian Church in the village where she was married in 1944 and then the Voorheesville Methodist Church teaching Sunday school in both and was active into her 80's visiting nursing home residents with the minister. Doris was a member of the Voorheesville Fire Dept. Auxiliary and New Scotland Seniors. Doris loved people - she loved and cared deeply for her family, her many dear friends and neighbors and her community. Doris is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Edward; her parents, John and Dora Hodges; sister Olive and husband Paul Heisler; and brothers, John and Elmer. She is survived by her son, John Relyea; nephew, James Heisler and wife Jackie; grandnephew, Daniel; grandniece, Julie; great-grandniece, Eden and great-grandnephew, Logan. Doris leaves us with her favorite Bible verse John 3:16 : For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Voorheesville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 9 Voorheesville Ave., Voorheesville. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Doris Relyea may be made to the Voorheesville Methodist Church, the Voorheesville Fire Dept or the Community Hospice of Albany.
