Delmar - Robert V. Pennock, Sr., "Knobber", 87 years of age, passed away on September 20, 2014, at home, with his family by his side. He was born in Albany on February 27, 1927 to William Ward and Anna J. (Owens) Pennock. He was the sixth of their seven children. Bob graduated from the former Vincentian Institute. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Tucson. He graduated from, and was a Golden Knight Alumni of, St. Michael's College in Colchester, VT. Bob was married for over 61 years to Anne M. (Cardamone), who lovingly cared for him during his decline from Parkinson's Disease. It was said, throughout their marriage, that you would never see one of them without the other. Anne and Bob were a loving couple who were an inspiration to all who knew them. Bob was predeceased by his brothers, William W., Thomas O., and the Hon. John H. Pennock; his sisters Anne "Penny" (Charles) Loftus and Sr. Mark Pennock, RSM, and his son John W. Pennock. Whitney (Kevin Birdsall); and sons Thomas (Janet), Robert V., Jr. and Christopher (Chris) Pennock. He is survived by his sister Mary (late James) Dresser. He was the fun-loving and devoted grandfather of Francine Veguilla, Catherine, Theresa and Meara McTague, Erica (Charles) Nasca, Christopher (Meghan) and Sean (Nyssa) Turner, Owen and Rory Lynch, Catherine E. (Edward) Guthrie, Robert V., III and Matthew Pennock, Daniel Pennock, and Michael and Anne E. Whitney. Additionally Bob had five great-grandchildren, Edward Vth, Patrick John and Hannah Catherine Guthrie, and Henry and Anne M. Nasca. Bob started his civil service career with the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, where he was noted for earning an operational Merit Award for suggesting methods to conserve time and resources. In 1959 he began his work with the Department of Law. After more than 37 years of State service, he retired as Senior Investigator for the Attorney General's office. He worked to organize the family troops for the committee to reelect his brother John to the Supreme Court. He volunteered his time at local museums and was a long time member of the Elks Club. Bob was a communicant of St. Matthews Church in Voorheesville since 1968 and was an active member of the parish. He enjoyed participating in many golf leagues and also attending the Naval Reunions of the USS Tucson, and St. Michael's College Reunions. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as their "Uncle Knobber". He was a gentleman to all who met him, and was always a kind man. A Reception of the body will be held at St. Matthews Church, Mountainview St., Voorheesville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Matthews Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont.
