Albany - George M. Haverly, 90, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Albany. Born in Schoharie on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1922, he was the sixth of nine children of Clyde and Fanny Wilber Haverly. George served in the United States Coast Guard from April 1942 to August 1946. Upon his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard he went to work for Mobil Oil Corp at the Port of Albany and retired in November of 1981 after 35 years of service. On August 8, 1947, he married Julia George of Albany who died on April 12, 1986. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by four brothers, Wilber Haverly, Walter Haverly, Robert Haverly and Raymond Haverly; four sisters, Dorothy Haverly Miller, Marion Haverly Roney, Catherine Haverly Zimmer and Delores Haverly Jerome. Survivors include his sons, Carl Haverly (Nancy) and David Haverly. George is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
