Obituary of Paul R. Barrowman

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Voorheesville - Paul Richard Barrowman passed away on March 9, 2024 at home after a short illness. Paul was born on February 25, 1949 in Albany. He was the son of the late Margaret Fryer Barrowman and Clarence Barrowman. He was raised in Voorheesville and graduated from Voorheesville Central School, class of 1967. Paul was the quarterback of the 1966 undefeated Voorheesville High School football team. He also played baseball and basketball throughout high school.

Paul served in the United States Army for three years, honorably discharged in 1973. He spent a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star. He obtained a Bachelor of Sociology degree from the State University of New York at Albany.

Paul spent his entire working career as a skilled, self-employed carpenter and craftsman. He could do and fix almost anything carpentry-related. In his semi-retirement years, he built, gifted and sold hundreds of birdhouses with a multitude of designs and features. Paul enjoyed skiing, canoeing, and the ocean. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and followed high school and college football and basketball. Paul was remarkably generous with his time and talent to his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, was never shy with an opinion, and was a bit of a mischievous character. Paul will be greatly missed by all.

Paul was the brother of Raymond Barrowman of Guilderland, Roger (Theresa) Barrowman, M.D. of Delmar, and the late Nancy Barrowman. He was the uncle of Benjamin (Lauren) Barrowman of Delmar, Robert (Casey) Barrowman of New Hartford, Bethany (Ryan) Keller of Delmar, and William (Carli) Barrowman of Delmar. Paul was a cousin of Donna Lee (James) Quinn and their children Tara and Sean Quinn; Susan (Art) Draeger and her children Jeffrey and Daniel White, and Beth Skoldberg and predeceased by cousins, the late David Russ, and the late Robin Barrowman. Uncle Paul was a loving great-uncle to Connor, Jane, Lacey, Thea, Rowan, Maggie, and Sadie. There were always candy bags from Uncle Paul at every holiday gathering for each of the children. Paul was a dear friend and companion of Sharon Meeker, and remained a lifetime treasured friend of his former wife, Sally Burke Hall.
