Obituary of Margaret M. Chappell

Colonie – Margaret M. Chappell age 83, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy and entered into the paradise that is an eternal library. Born in Hudson, New York, to the late William and Mary DeJoy (née D’Angela), she graduated from Hudson High School in 1950. The first in her family to earn a college degree, Margaret attended the Union University School of Nursing at Albany Medical Center and became a registered nurse. She was dedicated to her profession, working at various health facilities in Colonie or Albany for 36 years before retiring from her position at Teresian House Nursing Home in 1996. Margaret was the loving wife of the late Kenneth E. Chappell to whom she was married for 52 years. For over 50 years Margaret served as his trusted co-pilot in life, as well as on cherished road trips in the family Ford. Survivors are her beloved children, Kenneth P. Chappell (Judith Assini) of Loudonville, NY and Cheryl Ann Carroll (Fred Carroll) of East Lyme, CT. Cherished grandmother of Katelyn and Joseph Chappell (Colonie, NY and Georgetown, Washington DC) and Heather and Sean Carroll (Stirling, Scotland and Poughkeepsie, NY). She is also survived by her siblings, Matilda (Madee) Wagner, Louise Omelenchuck, and John A. DeJoy (Marion DeJoy). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Visiting hours will be Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30, prior to the service.
