Voorheesville - Shirley Marie Allen, born Shirley Marie Harrington in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on March 16, 1935, died at her home in Voorheesville, New York, on December 1, 2025, preceded in death by her parents, her sister Helen Harrington Bennett and her brothers Howard Harrington and Richad Harrington, and survived by her sons James Allen of Voorheesville, New York, Mark Allen and partner Ana of Alexandria, Virginia, and Thomas Allen and wife April of Voorheesville, New York, her daughter Kristine Allen Stottlemyer and husband Craig of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, her grandchildren Michael Allen, Matthew and Mark Stottlemyer, and Katherine Petit, and her great-grandchildren Liliana Allen, Walker Allen and Luke and Tyler Stottlemyer.  Shirley is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Harrington of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Shirley was educated in Corning, New York, and Elmira, New York, became a registered nurse in 1955, and graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York, in 1988.  She worked in Elmira, New York, and Schenectady, New York, at St. Claire’s Hospital, retiring in 1994.  Shirely believed that there is nothing more important than love of God, family and friends.  She had a lifelong concern for the poor and disadvantaged, giving generously and, after retirement, volunteered at St. Matthew’s Church and at an Albany soup kitchen and nursing home and teaching English to recent immigrants.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 25 Mountainview St.,  Voorheesville, New York, on December 19, 2025, with burial at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum in Niskayuna.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Albany Medical Center for Donation and Transplant, 218 Great Oaks Boulevard, Albany, New York 12203, or The Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, New York.
