Sarasota, FL - Margaret Mary Hodges Negus, 90, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL.
Born in Au Sable Forks, NY on September 12, 1934, Margaret was the daughter of the late Anna and James Hodges and sister to the late Catherine Hodges. She graduated from Au Sable Forks High School and Albany State Teachers College, after which she worked as a teacher in Gilboa, NY and later, after caring for her young children, for NYS Medicaid. She lived for more than 50 years in Voorheesville, NY with her family. She spent her last few years of life in Venice, FL, enjoying the sunshine and care and company of her daughter and son-in-law away from the NY winters.
Margaret was an avid reader, puzzler and Yankees fan. She loved spending time with her family and always had a stockpile of dessert and ginger ale ready for their visits. Smart, generous and extremely funny, she will be missed by all who knew her.
Margaret was married to the late LeRoy Negus. They were introduced through her college roommate and lifelong friend, Marilyn. Margaret spent nearly 60 loving years by his side. She is survived by her children, Jeffery Negus and Brenda Zeh (Peter); grandchildren, Rebecca and Sean Clair; step-grandchildren, Michael Clair, Jonathan Zeh and Christian Zeh; cousin Claire Courtney (Ron); good friend Jean Bombard, and several other close friends.
Services will be held privately with close family. Those who wish to contribute a gift in her memory are encouraged to donate to their local public library, in honor of Margaret’s love of reading and education.
