Obituary of Eleanor Grounds Winne

Colonie - Eleanor Grounds Winne, 94, of Central Ave. died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at her home. Born in Colonie, Eleanor was a lifelong town resident. She was employed as a teacher by the South Colonie School District for 23 years, retiring in the late 1970’s. She was a recipient of a Teacher of the Year Award and was a lifelong member of the South Colonie PTA. Eleanor enjoyed traveling, was an Amateur Radio Operator and along with her husband, enjoyed organizing Air Force Reunions. Also, she was a past Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at the Roessleville Presbyterian Church. Eleanor is survived by her husband of 73 years, Richard J. Winne; sons, Richard D. Winne (Janet) of Colonie, Ronald C. Winne (Susan) of Rotterdam and Wayne J. Winne (Kim) of Delmar; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph and Norman Grounds. Funeral services will be held at a time to be announced on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Eleanor’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Hospice workers who cared for her, especially Sindu, Nettie, Tiffany, Anne, Joel and Sonja.
